Pete The Paramedic

 Ask Pete

"Pete the Paramedic" is a miniature robotic ambulance used by the Emergency Medical Services of West Des Moines to promote safety and teach first-aid to children. Pete is built to replicate his "Big Brothers" and has many of the same features as a real ambulance such as working lights and a siren. Some of the topics Andy can cover include:

  • Bicycle safety
  • School safety
  • Safety around the home
  • What to do before an ambulance arrives

Useful Child Saftey Information

CHILD SAFETY SEAT LOANER PROGRAM

Iowa law states a child under 3 years of age who is being transported in a motor vehicle shall be secured during transit by a child restraint system. This program is designed to meet the short-term needs of our citizens who may have a grandchild or significant other coming to visit that require a child safety seat. These seats are on a first come, first serve basis and can be reserved by calling our office or contacting us.

BIKE HELMET PROGRAM

Helmets are a very important aspect of child safety. Unfortunately, many helmets are rendered useless due to poor fit or breaks in structural integrity. In keeping with or commitment to promote community safety, WDM EMS has instituted this program to provide helmets free of charge to those whose are damaged, worn, or simply do not have one or are unable to obtain one. We plan to give them out to anyone (adults included) who is out on any wheels without a helmet anywhere in the city, including skateboarders and roller bladers. If someone should damage a helmet, it can be brought to our offices and exchanged for a new one. Working together we can make outdoor activities as safe for our citizens as they can be. Contact our office for more information.
