WDM Police investigate Fatality Crash
At approximately 1:32 P.M. on June 19th West Des Moines Police Officers were dispatched to a crash that had occurred on I-80 between 60th Street and Jordan Creek Parkway. The Police Department’s accident investigator has determined that the motorcyclist, John Longman (55 year old male) from El Paso, Illinois was driving a Honda Goldwing, pulling a motorcycle trailer westbound on I-80 when he lost control of his motorcycle and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes of I-80. Longman fell from his motorcycle and was struck by an eastbound vehicle, described as a white, smaller SUV. The white SUV did not stop at the scene.
The reason Longman lost control of his motorcycle is still under investigation.
Longman was pronounced dead on the scene.
The West Des Moines Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of the white SUV. Anyone having information on the identity of the driver of the SUV is encouraged to contact Officer Matt McCarty at 222-3321.
