Independence Days Activties in West Des Moines

A variety of activities will take place in West Des Moines to celebrate Independence Day for 2010!

NOTICE: July 4 Firworks Display Postponed to July 9. Read below.

July 3rd:

Independence Days Parade starts at 5:30pm from 39th and Ashworth.  This year's theme is PATRIOTS ON PARADE!  From 39th the parade will proceed east to Vine, then south on Vine to 4th Street, and then south on 4th Street ending at Maple.  The parade is sponsored by West Bank.

Post Parade Street Dance follows the parade in Valley Junction featuring the music of Mikiel Williams and Friends!  The street dance is sponsored by the Historic Valley Junction Foundation.

July 4th

Holiday Classic Horseshoe Tourney will be held at Holiday Park starting at 9:00am.  For more information call 681-1937.  The event is sponsored by the WDM Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

July 4th Aquatic Center Special offers $2 admission per person at both West Des Moines aquatic centers.  The aquatic centers are open from Noon until 6:00pm.

26th Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament will take place in Raccoon River Park starting at 8:00am and is sponsored by the WDM Fire Department.  For more information please call 222-3420.

WDM Community Band Concert will be held by the Coneflower Shelters in Raccoon River Park starting at 7:00pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of patriotic favorites!

Fireworks Display - POSTPONED. Due to heavy rain and wind forecast for the West Des Moines area, the Fireworks display planned for July 4th at Racoon River Park has been postponed until Friday, July 9 at dusk. The rain predicted to occur throughout the day, coupled with heavy rain and wind in the early evening, will make it impossible for spectators to park and watch the display.
