The Mayor's Bike Ride on Sat., May 12, has been cancelled
Mayor Steven Gaer will kick off the Fifth Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride in West Des Moines on Saturday, May 12, at 9 a.m. at City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway.
Bicyclists can choose one of two routes: a 3.5-mile family friendly recreational trail loop or a 19-mile trail route that will take cyclists through a variety of terrains and parts of the City. All routes start and stop at West Des Moines City Hall.
The fee for the ride is $10 per rider and riders can pre-register by visiting www.wdm.iowa.gov/parkrecreg and entering Mayor’s Bike Ride in the search bar. Registered participants will receive a T-shirt. Families with children ages 6 and over may register together for a maximum fee of $25. Day of event registration will be held at 8 a.m.
West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be giving away free bike helmets, and Hy-Vee’s Healthy You Mobile will be supplying nutritious snacks and beverages for riders from 8 a.m. to noon. School participation awards of $200, $150 and $125 for the first, second and third most participants from various schools in West Des Moines. The organization or business with the most participants will receive the traveling Mayor’s Bike Ride Cup Award with their name engraved on it.
